What is Breast Uplift?
A Mastopexy aims to re-position the nipples and breast tissue so that ideally they do not move when in and out of a bra.
For patients wanting bigger breasts then this operation can be combined with the placement of an implant. This procedure is called an Augmentation Mastopexy.
As mentioned there any many techniques that result in different scars. Commonly heard terms include “wise pattern,” “vertical or lollipop” and “periareolar.” Each scar has different pros and cons, especially with long term outcome and this is something we can discuss at your consultation. My preferred technique is the R-mastopexy in which the scar is anchor shaped and the nipple is suspended on a central mound pedicle. This technique has the advantage of producing a much more fullness and cleavage area. Internal stitches mean the breast stays in position for longer and the scar is less inclined to stretch. The central mound technique gives better sensation and blood supply to the nipple to reduce complications. This technique does not use drains. Glue dressings mean you can shower immediately and do not require any dressing changes in the recovery period.

The Consultation.
I will ask you specifically about your motivation for surgery and expectations. This will be followed by a medical history and a discrete examination including key breast measurements. We will take photos and discuss your options in detail. Some patients don’t need a mastopexy and may be better suited to an implant, or a reduction or a combination of both. You will be shown a presentation including pictures of post-operative results and details of the surgery. There is plenty of time to answer all your questions. You will receive a comprehensive letter with supplementary information leaflets to inform and guide you. If you proceed with surgery we have another consultation, included in your price, to go through the procedure in more detail, answer any questions you may have, and prepare you for surgery.
The Planning.
The Surgery will be based on the size and shape of your breasts. Liposuction may be recommended to enhance the overall result. If you are over 40 you will need a mammogram done within 1 year of your surgery. This can be arranged privately but does incur a cost.
This is a good opportunity for a friend to come for support. We advise no holiday abroad within two months of surgery.
The Procedure.
The surgery is performed in a fully operational hospital with an excellent safety record. Surgery is commonly performed in the morning and you will be given the opportunity to stay overnight should you wish.
The Aftercare.
You will be followed up regularly by both the specialist nursing staff and myself. All follow-up is included in your price. Most patients are seen at 1 week for a wound check, 2 weeks for your glue removal, 6 weeks and 3 months for photographs, feedback questionnaires and scar advice.

Breast Uplift FAQs.
What is the difference between a breast uplift and breast augmentation?.
Breast augmentation uses implants to increase size. A breast uplift (mastopexy) repositions and reshapes the breast to correct drooping, without necessarily changing size.
Will a breast uplift increase my breast size?.
A breast uplift alone does not significantly increase size — it lifts and reshapes existing tissue. An augmentation mastopexy (uplift with implants) can achieve both lift and increased volume.
What causes breast drooping (ptosis)?.
Breast ptosis is most commonly caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding, significant weight loss, ageing and gravity. Surgery is usually the only effective long-term treatment.
What are the scars like after a breast uplift?.
The extent of scarring depends on the degree of ptosis and technique used. Mr Holmes discusses the expected scar pattern in detail at consultation. Scars typically fade over 12–18 months.
How long does a breast uplift last?.
Results are long-lasting but not permanent — further changes can occur with ageing, weight changes or future pregnancies.
