What is Breast Enlargement?

Breast Enlargement involves placing a silicone implant underneath the breast tissue or chest muscle to give a bigger and better projected breast. The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic as either a daycare or an overnight stay.

My drainless surgery with enhanced recovery methods mean you spend less time in hospital and recover quicker. We give you a specialised body wash to use after surgery and a bespoke pain relief package to ensure you are comfortable and back to normal as quickly as possible.

An alternative technique to perform breast enlargement can be done using a process called lipofilling. This is a combination of liposuction, usually from the tummy or hips, followed by re-injection of the fat into the breast. This can be done on its own or in combination with an implant. This procedure is better suited for people wanting a very modest increase in size – less than a cup size – or people who don’t want silicone implants.

Who is Breast Enlargement for?

Young women with small cup breasts wanting to increase their cup size.
Women concerned with breast asymmetry. This can be corrected using different sized implants.
Women with previous implants who are looking to achieve a different breast size.
Women with breast implants that are old, ruptured or causing problems who want them replaced.
If you have droopy breasts – commonly associated with massive weight loss, ageing or childbirth – then you may require a breast implant combined with an uplift, also known an Augmentation Mastopexy.

1.

The Consultation.

There is a lot of information on the internet so patients usually come with lots of questions. Part of your consultation will involve a medical history and a discrete examination including key breast measurements. We will take photos and discuss your options in detail. You will be shown a presentation with pictures of post-operative results and the pros and cons of each type of implant. There is plenty of time to answer all your questions. All patients receive a comprehensive letter with supplementary information leaflets. Patients who proceed to surgery will have another consultation, included in your price, to go through the procedure in more detail and prepare you for surgery.

2.

The Planning.

You can try on implant sizers to guide us towards the size of breast you would like to achieve, so remember to bring a tight fitting top to help you see the look you want post surgery. The final implant will be chosen taking into account your current breast measurements, desired size, and the style of implant.

This is a good opportunity for a friend to come for support. We advise no holiday abroad within two months of surgery.

3.

The Procedure.

The surgery is performed in a fully operational hospital with an excellent safety record. Most patients will have their surgery in the morning and are given the opportunity to stay overnight. We don’t use drains or dressings and you can shower immediately.

4.

The Aftercare.

Patients are followed up regularly by me and my team. All follow-up is included in your price. Most patients are seen at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. At 3 months patients can be discharged with an open appointment for peace of mind.

I chose Mr Holmes and the Methley Park Hospital because I was interested in going down the lesser invasive route (R-Lift). I was incredibly nervous during my first consultation however Mr Holmes described the whole process in a no-nonsense way which was easy for the ‘lay person’ to understand. As a result, I felt informed…

Patient Reviews

I recently had breast implants at Methley park hospital by Mr Holmes. I chose Mr Holmes on recommendation. I have a small frame and was advised on the size of the implants and not to go too big as they wouldn’t suit my frame. I went on Mr Holmes advice and my results are fab, I’m so pleased and would highly recommend this surgeon.

Procedure risks.

Immediate Risks.

  • Wound Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Poor scarring
  • Wound healing problems
  • Implant infection resulting in the implant needing to be removed. The risk of this is very low, less than 1 in 100. However if it does happen it can involve loss of the implant and no implant replacement can take place for at least three months until any infection has settled down

Early Risks.

  • Malposition of the implants, either too high or too low
  • Rotation of the implants, which is only a problem if we use a tear drop shaped implant. Rotation is rare at approximately 2-5%. If it does happen it will often require a further operation to correct this (this may have an associated cost).
  • Occasionally following surgery your nipples can be numb or hypersensitive. This subsides as the breasts heal but, in some circumstances, people can be left with altered sensation that can be permanent.
  • Seroma is a build-up of fluid that occurs after any surgery. Your body will slowly absorb this fluid in time. However, if it persists, it can often result in some swelling around the breasts which may need to be drained using a needle and syringe in the clinic.

Late Risks.

  • Capsular contracture
  • Implant rupture
  • Deflation
  • Shape changes over time are especially common following childbirth, breastfeeding and weight changes.
  • Implants don’t last forever and we will discuss what may be required in the future.
  • ALCL is a type of breast cancer related to implants. The risk is very low but will be discussed with you at length.
  • Breast Implant illness has a considerable amount of media attention. We will discuss this in more detail to separate media hype from the clinical data.
